Trumbull

Originally settled in the last 1600’s by residents of Stratford, Trumbull was officially incorporated in October, 1797. The town was named for the Revolutionary War Governor Jonathan Trumbull, the only man to serve as Governor of a Colonial Colony. By the end of the 1800’s Trumbull was mostly a rural agriculture community and home to mining and manufacturing industries. As people began moving from cities to suburbs the population of Trumbull grew by over 20,000 from 1950 to 1970. Today Trumbull is a largely residential community located in Southern Connecticut, not far from Long Island Sound. Trumbull’s close proximity to the airports of New York, Bridgeport and Hartford opens the airways to cities everywhere. Covering 23 square miles and home to numerous parks, there is a wide variety of outdoor activities for all ages. The numerous parks in the area offer activities such as hiking, swimming, sports, fishing, biking, golf, playgrounds and camping. There is also an arts council that sponsors an annual arts festival, free outdoor concerts throughout the summer and a town youth association. Trumbull also offers a solid education to its student population. Public schools in the area include one pre-school, six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school.
